It’s Been One Year

On year ago, I started a journey that would culminate in my rediscovering my love of photography. For nearly a year, maybe longer, my camera was tucked away in its bag in my closet. Then, out of boredom from not being able to leave my apartment I took these two photos of my kids.

Those two images rekindled my passion for the only form of art I have ever been good at. Since then I have taken 11,625 photographs, continuing to hone my skills as a photographer. I have learned new skills, like editing in Lightroom, better framing, and better composition, just to mention a few. There are always opportunities to learn new things; that will never end. I have learned to love experimentation with my photography whenever I have the chance. Some of that works out, but often it doesn’t. Everything is a chance to learn. I am a firm believer that you learn more from your failures than from successes.

In the beginning of the Coronavirus shutdown, I made a point to take at least on photograph and post it to a blog every day. I did that for the first 70 days. then I bought a house and moved. After that, I slowed down with the photography (and the blogging) a little bit but a lot more has happened since then.

  • I got a new lens, a 24-70mm f/2,8

  • Like I already stated, I learned photo editing in Adobe Lightroom

  • I started this website and transferred my blog to this platform

  • I invested in a new camera, the Canon R5

  • Started to build a potential photography business

Besides photography, there was a lot of personal ups and downs. I got to spend a lot of time with my kids and we are super close. I got engaged. There was stress related to my job as a nurse, the kids in remote learning, buying a house, moving. Through it all, I used photography as my stress relief. When I was out shooting, I forgot about all my worries.

I am very excited to see what is to come in the next year of my photography! So, in honor of the one year anniversary of my quarantine, I will post some photos of my kids playing again.
